E.J. Manuel got an accidental call during third pick of NFL draft
Florida State quarterback E.J. Manuel defied most expectations when he was selected No. 16 by the Buffalo Bills in Thursday night's NFL draft. For the briefest of moments, he thought he was going even higher than that.
Manuel was a guest on The Dan Patrick Show on Friday morning and said his hotline phone rang while the Miami Dolphins were picking in the No. 3 spot.
"They were looking for [linebacker] Dion [Jordan] but obviously I got excited," Manuel said with a laugh. "Somebody was like, 'congratulations buddy,' and I'm like 'aw thanks, appreciate it, who's this?' And they're like 'is this Dion?'"
After Manuel answered, the caller abruptly hung up the phone.
"That was kind of rough, but I got picked later on, so it's all good," Manuel said.
At least Manuel got a pleasant surprise 13 picks later. Can you imagine how awkward it would have been if that phone call had gone to Geno Smith's phone instead?
