Racism is a very poor guide for policy. And that's about all the Trump administration did. We have to stop the brown people from coming here. By god we will even snatch their kids from them. We will put them in concentration camps. We will make Mexico hold them. We will build a wall. We will cut off foreign aid And all that has done is fuel the panic to get out while they think they can.

And I have heard all that before but this is the first time I have seen reports from people who are actually on the ground reporting about what amounts to sales pitches from smugglers. And they have some pretty slick pitches.

We also have to keep in mind who most these people really are. A lot of them are coming from isolated areas with no real understanding what is going on or what their chances are. And they are nearly universally poor with very limited educations.

All them really know is they want out. They don't want for them and their families to just die where they are. And they see the US as their best chance.

And the US could have been much better prepared. Our own intelligence agencies identified global warming/climate change as one of the biggest threats to our national security and world stability more than a decade if I recall correctly. Quite accurately predicting refugee crises as changes in climate shut down agriculture.

 

Well, but anything Trump says, or doesn't say, or does, or doesn't say, triggers hysteria among the despicables.

Shooter would have done the same thing: tell Mexico to get its shit together and stop these caravans, and by the way, if you're in the caravans, save yourself the trip. Oh, and if you export/import across the border take note and act accordingly.

Now I am still betting that Trump is just buffing and running his mouth because by now both members of his administration and a flock of Republicans have told him shutting down the border would be a disaster. But we will see. After all Trump is literally and clinically mentally ill and there is no way to predict what he might do because he does not know himself.
